He has had it to the stealership twice and they raped him for close to 2k and he still gets the cel. Anyone know how to fix this?

Ummmmmm I did just tell you. A scanner is just going to give a code. Then after I look it up it's gonna say exactly whats coming up on the dash.

If you dont want to help just STFU and move on to the next thread.

What just happened here? dude, grow up, he's trying to help. check the IAT sensor, clean the screen, check the MAF, clean it out, Clean the throttle body, it's a sensor being thrown here, which could mean something is bad or in bad need of cleaning.

Before you do that take it to the auto parts store, the code it gives could give an indication as to why the light is on in the first place, not just say what's on the dash. it could even indicate which sensor it is and eliminate the need for you to "grace" us with your presence.

All the light means is something is not right somewhere between the gas cap and the O2 sensor on the exit side of the Cat. It can be anything between. You need a code to narrow it down. Dealerships don't keep talented mechanic very long but most of the time they are not completely clueless. Chances are if they are having trouble it is not a simple fix.

Ask your friend if he ever got a quote to fix it? If he did and they did not fix it for that amount he can call GM's Customer satifaction line. All dealers have a CSI (Customer satifaction index). The dealer will try to fix an issue to improve their CSI rating. A lot of times all they need to do is assign another mechanic to the job and it could be fixed up in a few hours.

If they told him ahead of time the job was time and material then he is SOL.

Thanx for the info. I thought maybe an o2 sensor myself now you have narrowed it down. By the way we did take it to AZ and they pulled the code. Said exactly what the dash said. They supposedly fixed this twice allready. The kid leaves for Afghanistan next week. No more dealerships. I am gonna pull the o2 and change it tommorro. The car looses all power when this happens and he can't drive it. Must be reading lean and floodin it out with fuel.

Thnx again Gorn

Oh by the way I'm 59 and not gonna grow anymore :P
