Default i got a question hopefully one of you motorheads could help me with

im in the middle of trading for a full size 1981 chevy scottsdale pickup4x4 3/4 ton with a 350 4bm and a 400 turbo transmission. the guy im tradin with said that when he drove the truck home it was alright shifted smoothly and everything. but after he parked it , he intended to restore it and it sat for about a year or a little less. now he said when he puts it in reverse, and 1st it just wants to hesitate to move. i know the guy and he doesnt hot-rod things at all, He thinks something might have got caught in the jets inside the tranny causing it to do that, and figures it could be fixed with a simple flushing of the transmission. what do u guys think.

Check the fluid..My camaro sat for a year and did the same thing, but was low on fluid..I added some and she was fine again.....but I would check it first. With a little new fluid and a few times going into first and rev and it should be fine..if not then you may have problems.

ya i would say let him flush and fill it sounds like it is low on the fluid, and if it has been sitting for that long a good flush and fill is not a bad ideal clean it out, but also just to make sure by some cheap atf fill it up and make sure..

I agree with 74454. Just check and add fluid. Might not need a full flush just yet.

edit: Excersize the gears before really getting on the tranny.
