i just put on my magnaflow catback on my lt1 and love it. but now my cat is rattling[:@]
what will just flat out gutting it do to the sound/ performance?
and what to do about check engien light comming on....

It depends on what year your car is, if it's pre 1996 you won't have to worry about an SES light, but you may still have to worry about emissions tests depending on how they are conducted in your area.

Depending on the State your in gutting the car will result in a shat pile of fines.
Don't ask, don't tell.
Most don't realize cutting the cat won't result in a large increase in power. There is a reason the cat is larger then the system, to allow flow while processing the exhaust. By some performance aftermarket 50 state legal and your good to go. The older, pellet style cats of the 70s and 80's did hamper the power pretty bad but those made now are very good at keeping the power levels up.
Emmision testing, if in your area, automatice failure if it's not on or gutted.
95 and later, yes, it will throw a SES light.
If your cat is rattling the "honey comb" broke loose inside. Do what you think is best to fix that problem.
