Gear drive
So thinking I was doing myself a favor and getting an amazing deal, I purchased a new Jegs noisy cam gear drive, Trans Dapt Slam Guard oil pan, and a billet bow tie timing cover, all brand new, for $120 bucks.
When I got home, I realized the oil pan was for a passenger side dipstick and the gear drive said for factory roller cam :icon_doh: What's different about the factory roller cam gear drive? |
Do you still have a functioning knock sensor? The harmonics from the gear drive picked up by the knock sensor will screw up your timing.
|
No, no knock sensor. So will this work on my engine? It's a 1974 350 4 bolt with a flat tappet hydraulic cam.
|
No it won't work. A roller cam engine has a thrust plate that bolts to the front of the block over the cam. Front of the cam design, as well as the cam gear is different: Roller & Flat Tappet Cams

Ahh, I see now after looking at the differences. Thanks!
