Hello, Any one help me!! Please!! my car(89' Camaro) doesn't start. I thought it was VATs key problem so I bought a new one but still it doesn't crank. Security light is on.....and I left for while because some people told me that it just goes off after for while but I doesn't go off. Do you think problem is Ignition? I may cut security code so at least I can drive my car.... But I do not know how to change Ignition or cut security code. If you know something, please let me know.!!!!! Thank you very much!!!!!!

what i have done before is check the spark. this takes two people. take on spark plug out, preferably in cylinder 1. ground the spark plug on the exhaust headers and have somebody turn the key. if you dont see spark, then it is most likely your coil, which is about a 40 dollar fix. this is a simple answer but may be your problem. coil's go kindof frequently. hope i can be of help.

my last camaro (89 RS 305 TBI) had a nightmare of a starting problem. it just would not do anything when i turned the key, i went through 2 starters, 3 batteries, 3 starter soleinoids, the ENTIRE VATS system, battery cables and endless hours of frustration until i sold the car. i really hope that its something simple for you.

i hope that the battery was good and held a charge. check the starter, check the spark, check the wires, check the distributer (if you have one) and check to see if fuel is being sent in (if its carbed)

If the security lite does not go off the car won't crank or start, even by pushing. The starter circuit is disabled and no power goes to the fuel pump. You can bypass the security key by wiring around it with a resistor of the right value. Teh procedure shown here is for a 93, but they are all basically the same. http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg
If the key bypass does not work, then you may have to replace the security module. The computer needs a digital code from the security module in order tho provide power to the fuel pump and starter circuits. The module can also be bypassed with an extensive rewiring job, but I don't thik ot is worth the effort.
