Default Coolant Leak

So, i found what appeared to be a small leak of coolant coming from the hose connector at, what i assume is some sensor in the coolant system. I tightened the hose at the connection and then refilled the coolant that had leaked out to the proper level. but the next time i drove it coolant started erupting from the top of the sensor all over the engine and then evaporating in large amounts of smoke from under the hood. Why would this happen, and what sensor would it be, because i've tried to look in my Haynes manual and online, but can't seem to figure out what exactly is the faulty part. any thoughts?

Top of the engine?? Could be the heater control valve. Dose it have three hoses going to it???

My thought is you should post a picture for show & tell.

yeah it was the heater control valve. apparently the connections for the hoses deformed over time and made it impossible for a good seal, but i just replaced it and now its running fine. Thanks for the help
