Carb issues

Hello

Okay, so I've been having some issues with my carburetor. It's a Rochester Two barrel 2GC. The engine won't fire up unless I put a tad of gas in the carb first, even if I pump the gas. After that, I can generally restart the engine with no problem for a couple of hours after I'm finished working on it. It idles just fine after I get it started.

I bought a kit and replaced the gaskets and the accelerator pump after cleaning out the jets. The only issue (aside from the engine not starting with the turn of the key) was that the rubber boot on the new pump would constantly get tangled in the spring beneath the pump assembly. I tried putting the new boot on the old metal pump shaft, but when I checked the assembly again, the new boot was shredded. I've tried improvising new things since then, but none work the way I need them to.

I'm honestly at the end of my rope. I'm no mechanic, so hopefully someone else has some insight.

I would suggest using a carburetor troubleshooting guide. The guide will go through a list of potential problems and fixes. For example it will list problems related to the choke, fuel delivery or vacuum (accelerator pump).
