Cam Markings?

OK, so I have a sneaking suspicion that this guy is trying to rip me off. I traded my carburetor for a Comp Cams .487 lift Extreme Energy cam, but the cam only measures to about .360 lift, I.E. a frikin stock cam. So I called the guy and he claims that any cam made by anyone will be stamped GM (as this on is, no Comp Cams markings on it), and wont have any brand markings on it. ONE, is this true, and TWO, how can I make 100% sure that the lift I'm measuring is right? It's smaller than the cam that came ouf ot my dad's truck's crate motor, so I'm pretty sure it aint no .487 lift cam, but would it have markings?

Oh, by the way, the markings on the shaft of the cam ar 6930, GM84, and 8K, no markings on the ends of the cam.
