Body repair/welding questions..

I have a question for all of you experienced self restorers out there..I want to do some of my own sheet metal work on my car and welding would be required. Im very mechanically inclined and have played around with some body work in the past, however I have never welded..

Im looking at doing some patch work and some quarter work, and from what it seems alot of the welding is spot welds on the panels...Would a gas less mig-welder like this do the trick for a home garage? I really dont want to store tanks of gas in my house..

Any help is appriciated..

That'll be fine, unless you wanna do some more serious bodywork in the future you might need a little more power, but if spot welds is all you need this will be just fine. Gas is always the better way to go though, you get better bonding and overall a more durable and in most cases better looking weld. I'm pretty sure you can buy little tanks too so you don't have a few giant tanks sitting in your garage :p. Gas can be expensive though, getting the right blend of Argon and O2 can take a bit of tinkering.

Yes, gasless will work ok for you. Welding with gas helps to contain the weld better and doesn't give you any spatter like the flux core does. For your needs, gasless means a little more clean-up around the weld. I've done a lot of metal repairs with my flux core MIG. Where I wish I had the containment of gas is when doing some tricky vertical or upside-down welds. My next one will be a 220 unit, higher amp output, with gas.
