Question Battery Drain

I have a 79 Camaro that I've put together for the strip. The car has been stripped down to get her as lite as possible. The car runs GREAT!!! The problem is after a couple of days of sitting, the battery will go completly dead. I have a test light. Where do I begin on finding my drain?

Have you had the battery tested at an auto parts store yet ? A test lght will tell you if there is power, but it wont tell you how much.

Default Battery Drain

I've had the battery tested at Sears, It's a new Die Hard. Someone told me to start at the fuse box and go from there. It's killing me that such a small problem is driving me crazzy.

NO. all the alternator does is charge the battery, it doesnt drain your battery.its called parasitic drain.even when your car is turned off, even if its not being used it will slowly drain.

yes, there could be something slowly draiming your battery in the car, even possbly a bad ground.

Yes it can, if the alternator is bad and has an internal short. But then the alternator would test out bad.

Disconnect your Positive battery cable. Hook your test light on the the positive terminal of the battery. Touch the cable you just disconnected. If there is a draw it should light. Now have a friend pull each fuse in the fuse box, one at a time while you watch the light. When/if it goes out then that is the circuit that has the draw. If it does not go out then you will need to start disconnceting the non-fused items like the altenator and starter.

A couple of notes. First you may want leave the fuses out instead of putting them back in as you test each on. The reason is you may have 2 issues, rare but it can drive you crazy. Second is most of the time its your lighter, lighter socket, trunk light or glove box light.
