Adding transmission lube to 4 speed
Anyone know of an easy trick for getting the transmission lube into a 69 camaro 4 speed without a pump since the trans tunnel is in the way? What is the best lube to use. The auto parts says syncromesh lube . What about the synthetic oils? We used to just use 90 weight lube but they say these other products are better.

You just need a plastic tube and your lube bottle becomes a squeeze bottle. I do not like mixing Synthetic and non-synthetic so if you are going to switch over you should drain out all the old fluid. This is easiest when the tranny is out.

The plastic tube method is how I have been doing it but you can only get about half the bottles contents in at one time, then you have to keep switching bottles and topping them off. I was wondering if anyone makes a small pump that works with these bottles. And I am trying to figure out which is better, synthetics or the straight synchromesh fluid that Pennzoil makes. Any transmission specialists out there ?

What about one of those $10 pumps that you can put on the end of a drill? Put a long hose on it to go to the tranny and a short one to the bottle of liquid? I used one of these many times to drain and fill industrial vac pumps where I could not easily get to the fill hole.

Do you have an Ace Hardware, Sears, Harbor Frieght, anything like that? They have them listed on their websites and local here. They are in the "water pump" category. If you can't find that, look for a small sump pump at your local boat dealer but I'm sure they will be a little more expensive.

Or, you could use what Michael Jackson used, a turkey baster.
Oh wait, he used that on rearends, not transmissions!
That'll still work for tranny fluid though, with a hose attached.
