i just got a 95 camaro. and it when i drive around town at lower speeds its fine. but when i get on the freeway and go around 60-70 for a little bit the check engine light comes on and stays on till i shut the car off. and when i get back in it doesnt come back on. but if i get on the freeway it does and does the same thing. someone said it could be my 0 2 (oxegen) sensor. would this sound right? what do you guys think it could be if not this? i dont know much about camaro this is my first. any advice helps. thanks

i would guess the O2 sensor, but then again who knows. best bet would be to go to a shop that does free diagnostic and have them pull the code out for ya

As NJ said, get it scanned and find out what the computer is complaining about. Otherwisw you may be buying parts you don't need. If you are serious about doing your own work, you should invest in a Scan Tool or at least a Code Reader. They could pay for themselves on your first repair. Just make sure you get the right version for your car.

First of all you need to know which oxygen sensor is causing your problem. If the car is ODB1 it has 2 sensors, one on each exhaust manifold. If it is ODB2, which I think it is, it will have 4 sensors, 1 on each exhaust manifold, and 1 after each catalyst. These are 4 wire sensors and go for $55 to $100, depending who sells them. It pays to shop around. Also, I rcommend you buy AC Delco O2 sensors, I had a lot of problems trying to keep Bosch sensors alive in LT1 engines. I assume you have a V8.

well today i went over to a Schucks. they said they could hook there diagnostic reader up to it for free. so i went over a few streets over to a express way..got up to about 65 and it came on again..so i drove back so they can do a reading. they hooked it up and it wouldnt read. there was some error and my system would scan. im not sure what im gonna do. theres a auto repair near my house and the guys at schucks said they are about the cheapest around here. but they said it was like 70-90 to find out exactly what the problem is. any sugestions?

It is going to sound like I preaching again, but if you want to work on a computer controlled car, you have to bite the bullet and by a scan tool. Not a code reader, but a scanner.(AutoXray makes a decent one)Plug the scanner in, drive down the road, when the trouble lite comes on, read the display. (works better with two people in the car). Most places, unless they happen to have a GM tech1 tool which can pull out stored codes, can only read active codes. So if you take the car there, and the light is off, they can't read the code, and anything they tell you at this point, is a guess. Or as NJ85 plainly put it, BSing.

well i went to this auto repair place and got them to do a scan right there for me. the light wasnt on at the time but it came back with the code 77- Digital EGR #3 solenoid. he showed me the screen and showed me where it is. there gonna call and get a price on the part tommorow. the labor is an hour he said. it is an ODB1 i found out too. i am gonna look into getting my own scanner.
