So what do you guys think?

Theres this kid at school (He's the same guy I had my wreck with, lol!) but he owns a car dealership and is currently driving a Grand AM, probably late 90s model.
He wants to race my 3800 because we never got the chance to really run them.
I don't know much about the Grand AMs, but I think they're about the same as the 3.4L Camaro right? Or I could be completely wrong, not sure lol.

So heres the obvious question: Who would win, stock for stock?

He isn't a serious car-guru, but he told my buddy the whole engine bay was chrome and really nice looking.
He also said he bought this car to race, so I'm not sure if its got any FI or swapped or what.

My other question is, what mods could he possibly have that I should back down from?
What would put him over me?

Theres also this ricer who apparently just played NFS or something for 18 hours straight because he talks like frickin Paul Walker, thinks his stock 70's Datsun (Restored, terribly from the sounds of it)
Will out perform my car at any chance. But I'm not worried about that =)

Yeah, at first I thought he had a Trans AM, I was like ok...I'll race but I sure won't win lol.
So stock for stock I'm good, what about if he was running a mild turbo? Would I still be able to pull him?

RE: So what do you guys think?

depends on the year, the newer the newer body style grand ams had either a 3.4 or 2.4 i believe. is it a gt? the older ones i believe their "big motor" was a 3.1. correct me if i'm wrong. i don't see him being too much of a problem. chrome doesn't do much for horsepower, its more for show

sorry specter, they had the 3.1:D Grand Prix's had the 3.8. and unless he has one of the very rare factory turbo Grand Am's, you'll kick the crap out of him by a good distance.

Lol, I didn't mean for the chrome description to mean power or speed, maybe well maintained or swapped.
Looks like the GT model, which is what I bet he has, was running about a 16.2 in the 1/4 stock, '99 0-60 in like 7 secs?
I'll find out tomorrow exactly what he's running, my friend has been known to be deaf, maybe he really does have a T/A lol...

im pretty sure GA's came with a 3.8 eventually. i know GP's did, and GTP's and SSEI's were S/C 3.8

RE: So what do you guys think?

Grand am's never had a 3.8, and its was the 89-90 grand prix that you could get with a turbo. your car must be a turd if your worried about losing to a grand am. at best with bolt ons the newer ones are 15.9 if its a gt
