GEARS

Please no crazy comments on this one just a heads up;). So i am thinking about 4.56s in the TA. Keep in mind she is no trailer queen but is a track based car for the most part. In fact other then going to a show every now and then and to the track she doesn't leave the garage that often. What do you think play it safe with 4.10s or go all out :D

RE: GEARS

What are you running for a Tranny? If its a 6sp, my opinion would be 4:10's, if an auto, go with the 4:56's. Simply being that with the 6sp, your probably already traction limited in first and second. I have 3:42's in my 6sp, with probably much less mods than your car, and I cant hold my 325/30/17s down for first or second gear. If its speed you want, and its a track car, go for gold man, your not a newbie, so we dont need to tell you how gears work :D

RE: GEARS

id would say since it is a track car you probably have a set of slicks for it. with the slicks, if you build a bullitproof rearend you should definately go for the 4.56s. if you have a decent amount of power pumping out you will probably jerk the front wheels a few inches. i believe if you have the auto it comes with 3.23s and the manual comes with 3.42s. another good idea for a strip car is to replace you 7.5in rear and put on a ford 9in. many guys have a problem with putting ford parts on their cars but the bigger gears you can get the more durable they will be.

The car is a auto and does not have traction issue's thanks to some good rubber and a set of 15 inch prostare's.I dot expect the transmission to hold very long but we have something for that to ;).

Before jumping in with my $.02, I need to clarify something first. Is your car a "track" car or a "drag strip" car?
Not tryin to split hairs, but when you refer to a "track" car, generally you're talking about racing on a race course "track" (combination of straights and twisties). So it makes a difference on what gearing you use.
Yes, I know this is the "street/strip" section, but there isn't a "street/race course" section to otherwise refer questions to.

LOL a very good point. But yes this is no auto x or road course car [>:]. Once the transmission lets go i will be sticking with the RPM built stage 5 4L60 so i will be keeping 4th gear ;)

RE: GEARS

I'd go for the 4.56's, I was going to put a set in my six banger before we bought the mustang.
