Its Pittsburg Raceway park now about 2 hrs away my buddy(79 z28 454) goes out there said its a busy place just havent had the chance to go yet. Quaker city in Salem Ohio, Luckeys In Wattsburg Pa(erie) and Thompson in ohio are within 1.5 hours. Sunset is 15 minutes from my house so its the most convienent.

Uset to go to Westhampton in Long Island, but it has been turned into a housing development. So now I go to three strips in NJ, Raceway Park in Englishtown, Island Dragway in Hacketstown/Great Meadows, and Atco Raceway in Atco. They are all 1/4 mile tracks, althoug Raceway Parks also has a 1/8 mile strip parallel to the 1/4 mile one. They also have an oval for those that like to bang their cars.

Griff
I'm originally grom Youngstown and raced at Sunset back in the early '70's. What ever happened to Meander in Austintown? Quaker City is a great Track. I live in San Antonio, Texas now and don't race anymore but We have a great track here, San Antonio Raceway. It's an IRHA National Event Track and is nice as You can be. Not on the level of a Chicago or Vegas but real nice just the same. I used to race a Black '68 427 Camaro back then. I ran 6.90's at Sunset and 10.70's at Quaker in 1973-74.

Meander is "shut down" that is the one that was the airport, Theofolis sold it and it was later closed. Alex still runs Sunset he is in his late 70s he is a great guy $10 race all day, we won afew times and it payed for most of the year entry fees. The track is not the best but we are glad to have it. Those are some good times you ran!!! Quaker is still there but I think they are trying to sell it. Norwalk just went NHRA. Do you remember Ron Shargo? This is a picture of the 57 we used to run at Sunset Shargo is driving I think it was is the early 70s. I looked at sicks post on the Texas dragstrip it looks good down there even supporting highschool teams great!!! By the way you got out of Youngstown at the right time.

I remember Ron and Alex. I got out of Y-town when the mills started shutting down. I knew it was the beginning of the end. Really great down here, A bit hot in the summer but that's ehat A/C is for. The winters make up for it though. Last really big snowfall was 22 Years ago. We gat a little snow about 2 winters ago but it was gone by noon. They're opening a Toyota Truck plant that looks to be as big as Lordstown. I miss The Y-town area but I'm really glad I moved. My Sis lives up there. Her husband has a ber on Mahoning avenue in Austintown about 2 miles from Meander. It's been great talking with You.
