New camaro...Performance mods?

So my dad is going to give me his 2001 base t-top camaro. Before I get any haters lol i'm only getting it because I crashed my streetbike and need a car. (plus I think he's getting a corvette) anyway I, like everyone else on here, like to work on cars and am wondering. What kind of performance mods are plausible for a 17 year old to do looking to spend less than $1,000?

First post btw will post pictures of the car soon

I would do Magnaflow exhaust system and K&N cold-air-intake. These should make your car a little bit more fun. :icon_wink:

damn why are those filters so expensive

They are top of the line and the K&N intake system is supposed to add 6 RWHP. $400 is a lot, you're right. If its too much, I suggest the SLP cold-air-intake.

Not really sure this thread belongs in 'garage' but oh well. Since you say 'base' I'm assuming it's a V6, so this is written addressing a V6. There's a decent amount you can do for $1K and under. Muffler (about $90 give or take), headers (around $250 for Pacesetters), and CAI (A little over $100 for SLP, can't remember exact numbers). Possibly the baffle delete as well if you're good at fabbing up stuff. I personally do not like K&N and would never recommend them. They claim all this 'more air flow' crap, but more air flow means more dirt can get in and cause problems (if this is a daily driver, it wouldn't matter if it was hardly driven). Plus they're ridiculously over priced and you have to clean them. Drive without the air filter and you'll have the same effect as the 'more air flow' claim. I couldn't feel any difference when I tried it down the highway. I have the SLP CAI and it has helped. But you don't get the full effect of any individual part without having the complete system. A good exhaust system will greatly improve the performance. I can guarantee you won't go, "Wow, I can really feel this 15 extra HP!" It'll be more along the lines of "Wow, it feels easier to accelerate, smoother too." So your total for a pretty full exhaust set up is well under $1k. Probably the best thing to do is to look in the 4th gen section and start searching around there.
