Went for a spin over the last several days, weather near 90 degrees. On my aftermarket gauges the temp got up to 180 degrees and no further even in stop and go traffic and no fan on (manual fan switch only). Each time I noticed a quick drop from 180 to about 175 then slowly return to 180. At first I thought there was a loose connection but everything checked out. Used a non-contact thermometer to confirm the temps were correct. Is the thermostat actually cycling to cause this fluctuation?

Redline Tires - Best Options

I've got a '68 RS/SS Convert with redline tires on it that I would like to replace. The ones that are on it are Michelins that look like they had the redline added to the inside of, and the redlines don't look very good. Plus they're aging out and I'd like some fresh rubber. My first question is what brand of tire have you found with the best redlines? I've looked at Coker and Diamond Back, and they both look nice. I'm curious what others have found, and which models end up working nicely on a 1st gen Camaro.

Secondly, the existing tires on the car are size P215/70R15, mounted on rallye rims (I don't know whether they are stock spec for offset/backspace, but I would imagine they are) and I get a very quick but harsh-sounding and annoying rub when I hit a bump at speed, on the front left corner. It is very brief and hasn't done any damage to the tire, but it's loud and alarming, and I'd just as soon not have a rub. Right now, the tires really fill out the wheel well nicely, and I think the size looks great. I'm thinking of dropping down to P205/70R15 and hoping that this does the trick with the rub and still looks good. Does anyone have experience with these two sizes and know whether my issue will be solved? The 205 size should be about 0.55" shorter in hight/diameter, and I'm thinking that may avoid the rub and still look good.

I don't know if the various models that Coker and Diamond Back have significantly different sectional profiles to the tires, but I would suspect that a squarish profile would be worse in my case, as it seems that the rub comes from the outside edge of the tread area. The existing tires have a pretty modern (squarish) section, in my estimation, with a pretty wide contact patch. Looking at the literature, it looks like Diamond Back III or Diamond Back SS may have a little more rounded section than the Diamond Back Touring, for example.

Any thoughts and advice are welcome!

Thank you.

Having Trouble With My 2002 SS

I bought my 2002 SS new, and it only has 36,000 miles on it; it is not my daily driver. Lately when I go to start it after it has sat for a few days when I turn the key to ignition nothing happens. After holding the key to the start position after about 5-10 seconds the dash lights up as does the clock and the car chimes 5 beeps. It still does not start though. After another 10-15 seconds the engine finally starts. Sometimes the engine dies, and I have to restart it. I was thinking maybe a weak or going dead battery so I replaced the battery, but it still happens. It usually starts fine after driving if I stop somewhere and have to restart it after a short while. Just a few weeks ago though after driving for about 30-45 minutes and then shutting it off for maybe 10 minutes when I went to restart it the engine wouldn't turn over and all I got was a loud fluttering noise. No warning lights have come on in the dash display. As always my auto repair shop can't get it to replicate what happened to me. They said that it didn't throw up any codes to even give them a hint what to look for. Does this problem sound familiar to any of you that own a 4th gen Camaro with the LS1 engine? Do you have any ideas of what the problem could be? Thank you.

My 73 Z28 does not have the optional gauges but I have located a very nice set with a 150-mph speedo. I'll probably exchange the speedo with my original since the mileage is original. My question is about hooking up the AMPS gauge. This has a separate hook up not part of the rest. It has 2 leads as seen in photo 2. I need to know where to go with the wires I attach to them. Thanks, in advance.

Hi everyone! Tired enough from crazy times here - freshly obtained a project to wrench on. A '94 Z28 Auto T-Top Camaro, with the body replaced by a '97 one. Not many people in my country who have a clue on this cars (if any), so, having high hopes on your community. Will be glad to maybe add to the common knowledge with the time.
More on the car: bacause of the mixture of a catfish body over the '94 "under the hood" and drivetrain I'm now messing around identification of what the previuous owned did put together. Definitely A/C parts mixed up (already in progress to get it right), but will need your help with identifying the year and type of the brakes in the car (there is a probability it's a system from 3,8 car, will post pics in a saparate post, appreciate help). The rest seems "healthy" so far, the girl is tail-happy, shifts good :) Has a cool leather interior with inflatable side-support seats, pleasant lighting upgrades (black and white all-LED side markers, turns, LED-lensed high and low beams etc). Needs care on cooling system. Had completely rotten inoperational radiator cap, temporarily replaced by a new one, but still behaves weirdly. The proper OEM cap is on the way, but by now the car pushes coolant into reservoire and is not sucking it back into radiator. I suspect the cap is the reason, can it be?. Hopefully not a blown head-gasket. It really raises coolant level in the reservoire and gets low level in the radiator every time i drive it even a little, like a one-way pump :) I have attampted to burp the air from the system with the raised front, even ran it with thermostat open, heater on, and fluid container with higher-levelled coolant amount put in place of radiator cap, but it still pumps coolant one way only into the catch-can. I suspect main sealing surface of the radiator cap is "weak contact", as the pressure spring is having enough tention as i put the cap on. Will soon see what a proper cap does to it.
Some pics attached

Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading about EGR delete kits and I’m trying to understand the real-world implications before forming an opinion. From what I gather, the EGR system helps reduce emissions by recirculating exhaust gases, but some people claim deleting it improves performance and reliability.

I’m curious about whether those benefits are actually noticeable in daily driving, and what trade-offs might come with it. Also, how do different regions treat this modification in terms of legality and vehicle inspections?

I’d appreciate insights from anyone with experience or technical knowledge about long-term engine health, fuel economy, and environmental impact overall.

Hello everyone,
My name is Adam and I just became a 1979 Camaro owner. I've been wanting a late 70s Trans am or Camaro for years and finally got my hands on one. Its got a 4 speed and posi and has a 305 sbc with aluminum heads and intake. When I had it delivered from Ontario to me in Saskatchewan and it was running, but needed some love. I had it at a shop in town that looks at classic cars and muscle cars. The quadrajet 4 barrel carburetor needed a complete overhaul, cleaning, rebuild and tune. Loving the car, it has a bit of a shudder in first gear, not sure if it's the clutch or fly wall or combination of both.
