tunnel intake?

i know of a tunnel ram intake with two holley four bbl. double pumper carbs for dirt cheap. but i was talking to a buddy about putting the set up on my 350 and he said it prolly wouldn't perform all that well unless i cammed it and redid all the valves. is ths true or not?

RE: tunnel intake?

besides the fact that you would be dumping way too much fuel, the runners on a tunnel ram are huge. without major mods your air velocity would drop to nil. mine is cammed and valved to the max and the tunnel ram only makes about a half sec difference over a standard single or dual plane high rise. you will find alot of arguement over the use of a tunnel ram. unless you have actually raced one your just blowing air. RE: tunnel intake?

I rana Weiand tunnel ram with 2 x 600 vacuum secondaries ona 406 small block. The Weiand has smaller runners than most, so it came on a little earlier (3500 rpm). They look cool, but you'll get better overall performance with a good single 4 barrel intake like an air-gap, victor jr, etc. My .02 worth.
