RE: Transmission
What's she running, and are you looking for auto or manual? Is price a major concern? How about fuel economy (as much as it can be for a BB, anyway..)?
I'm pretty sure a 700r4 will bolt up to that, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you can get one that can take about 600 horses/ft-lbs for under $2000, and they've got overdrive, which is nice for fuel economy.
If you go with a manual, I like the Borg Warner T56.

Well if you have the right gears I would go with a Muncie-M22. Nothing beats the old rockcrushers but you might want it to be already rebuilt or slightly used because they can get expensive to rebuild. Rebuilt corse spline m-22s go for $1,200-$1,500. I bought one off of ebay for only $750 with shipping and it only had 2,000 miles on it after rubuild. That was just luck because he never said anthing except for that it was a muncie but I noticed their was ring on the imput shaft so i took a risk and got lucky. It looks like it was made in 1969 so its pretty valueable.
