timing and carb
hey guys, apparently finding a timing light is damn near impossible, and they are like $25 at auto stores, and since i have never done it, i wouldnt tell what the peak efficiancy would be. so are any of you guys mechanics or work in shops? what would they charge just to adjust the timing and carb to make it as good as possible. if its around the $20-$30 range i may as well let a professional do it you know? thanks everyone.

The small investment in a timing light will easily pay itself off in a short amount of time if you are a true do it yourself carcrafter. My favorite is the classic sun gun you can get for about $25 on ebay used. They last forever, or until the bulb gives out which takes around 20 years of steady use.

yeah i most likely will get myself a timing light, i just dont know what exactly to time it to lol i THINK it is 8 degrees above top dead center, im not positive though, and no its a standard shift 'Camaro69' and after that idk what to do with the carb lol i have pretty much been adjusting the idler screw to keep it below 1k while fiddling with the time, yeah, im a n00b when it comes to this lol i can put in and take out engines and trannies, just cant fine tune them lol

Factory specs, schmactory specs. The best timing is maximum advance without getting any pinging under a load. Start at 8 degrees before TDC, take the car out and run it hard, and see how it sounds. If you get no "marbles" sound, advance it a couple of more degrees and drive it again. Keep advancing it until you get pinging, then back the timing off to the last setting.
