sbc 350 build
Hello I was wondering if anyone here could help me with a formula for a cheap but good powered small 350. I was planning on getting a cheap short block from pepboys or ebay. Then I would get a bigger roller cam, a set of vortec heads, and a high rise intake. I have a brand new carb sitting in the garage. I believe its a 550 edlebrock.
Now these are just basic plans. Can someone please help me with the specifics on the cam and what kind of work can I get done on the heads for better performance? Also how well will the carb perform? Working on a budget! Thanks for any help!! |
Your description is way too vauge to give any sound advice. What car is it going into? Specific goals? Trans/stall convertor speed? Answers to these questions will get the ball rolling. Beware of cheap short blocks.....There are some sweet deals out there, but a lot, I repeat A LOT of junk is out there as well.

Well its going into a 70 camaro. Im looking for around 350 horsepower. I hear vortec heads will point me toward this direction. I've also heard of people having work done to their heads so I was wondering what that's all about. I also hear a lot about getting hot cams. I think you get them from comp cams but I really don't know what that's all about either. I mean I know the certain diameters of the cam will raise the valves different heights and durations but I don't know what people mean when they say hot or mild. Im building my first motor
Love your iroc by the way |
first of all if your only looking to get 350 horse from a 350 with vortec heads you dont need a hot cam,let me give you a little advice get a roller cam and be done with it theres no chance of error in breaking in ur cam unless u have wrong valve springs,u only need about a .450 lift cam to get you 350 horse,a new cam and new valve springs and ur gonna be rocking and rolling 350 horse is very doable.
