redoing machineshops screwover on a buddie need a spec i cannot find anywhere.
ok heads are 350 vortecs.
dont know if they are original but they were on an 89 half ton 4x4 350 chevy
now the guy bought new valves and springs, took them to a machine shop told them to rebuild the heads. he paid them to regrind the seats put new seals in and sleeve the valve guides if worn and so on.
heres what they did do... put the rotator cups on intake valves (wrong) replaced 3 out of 16 valve seals (wrong) knurled the valve guides (band-aid fix) didnt even touch the valve seats (bad for valves). and didnt even check to see if all valve stems sat level with eachother.(wrong and their 1/8 difference from shortest to longest)
now what i plan to do since i bought the heads for $50.
port an polish
3 angle grind on the heads
regrind valves
sleeve the valve guides
put rotator cups on exhaust side
replace all valve seals
but first i must grind all valves to factory lenght..(this i dont know)
i need to find the gm factory lenght of the valves from face to butt.
otherwise i gotta grind em all to the same lenght as the shortest one and hope the valvetrain geometry wasnt comprimised

And btw, knurling the valve guides is a common practice that lasts many, many miles. It's more than just a "band-aid". Most of the time it's the preferred way since total guide replacement is way more expensive to have done. It's up to you and your wallet if you want to go all out.

cool ty for the links.
im not 100% sure my heads are vortec.
i do kno what the newer ones look like
mine have same intake ports and bolt pattern as my 305 stock heads?
so does that mean they arent vortecs?
lol sounds funny huh? doing my own machining but cant tell diff between vortec an norm heads..
its cus i havent really seen manny vortec heads off a car. and ive only recently gained acess to the specialty tools i need

Look up the casting numbers. Also look closer at the Chevy High Performance link I gave. It shows the saw blade casting marks as the giveaway for being Vortec heads, as well as the casting numbers to watch for.
