New transmission?

New transmission?
I was out driving my car today, and I noticed the transmission was acting a bit weird. I've never had any problems with it before, but today the shifts wasn't as smooth as they usually are, and it was also shifting later than it usually does. It was almost like it didn't want to shift at all, esp not from 1st to 2nd. 2nd to 3rd was a bit more smooth, and once it got in 3rd there was no problem at all and the car was acting the same way as it always is.
The car is a 1980 Z28. As far as I know it's the original transmission. The engine has been rebuild, and it has about 350 hp. As far as I know the original transmission is suppose to handle up to 370-400 hp, but I was thinking maybe the 350 ph is what's killing my transmission?
So I was wondering if I should get a new transmission? I want a mechanic to have a look at it too of course, but I want to make up my mind about a few things first, just in case I do need a new one. Should I just have the original one rebuild or should I go with something better? (any suggestions?).

RE: New transmission?
the transmission will handle what your engine is putting out.check the vaccum line going to the modulator valve ,located on the passenger side rear of the transmission.if the vaccum line is hooked up and you have vaccum to the modulator ,i would say the modulator is bad.
