Default LT1 Motor in a LS1 Car?

I have a 98 firebird (3.8L) and it has a blown motor. I have a 95 Z28 that has the LT1 copmlete drive train, its a wrecked car with lots of body damage. Im having trouble finding out if i can put the LT1 motor into the 98 firebird that would be a LS1 car if it was a trans am!! Anyone know if they are interchangeable??

well your car isnt an ls1 car,its a v6 car.Its been done before and can be done again. Most people now days do go ls1 but there is nothing wrong with a LT1.As long as you have the donor car,it should be a simple swap.

thanks for the help! yes i have a 95 Z28 its got everything but a raditor. i have just had mixed responses, some people said its illegal because of emissions but i live in alabama so im coverd there. Some said it would be extra work but didnt say what kind of extra work. Do u think the wiring harness and all the electrical will match up and work?? and do u know of any thing that might cause problems?
thanks again!!

an ls1 cannot go into an lt1 style car because of the motors dimensions (unless u replace the front clip). so i would assume if you have a 98 style an lt1 will fit. I have not ever seen one of these swaps and I dont know what suspension components are shared. u may need a new k-member, but otherwise they share transmission so you should be good to go

here in NJ it IS illegal for emissions. you cannot put an older motor into a car. in other words, you can put a 2000 LS1 into anything older than 2000, but cannot put it into anything newer. i should also note that you have to keep all the emissions equipment on the newer engine as well....

not that anybody actually follows that, but it can be an issue if someone techs the car at inspection and knows what they are looking at
