deck check

Default deck check

it appears that my 400 block has been decked. this block came this way. im not sure how much has been taken off. how do i and where do i measure the block to find out. thanks for any help. 359 PETE

Ypu are talking about thousants of an inch, take to an automotive machine shop & let them figure it out. What makes you think it has been decked?

Stock deck height is 9.025" measured fron the crank centerline to the top of deck, I seriously doubt that every block is exactly this though so the measurement might not tell you how much was decked. If the pistons are still in it you could go tdc and measure across the deck measure piston height to get a estimate........ It is a job more suited for the machine shop though. Sometimes when they deck the stamped numbers are gone not full proof though cause people can replace the numbers.

well sir, the guy at the machine shop told me so. my block is there right now. i do plan on asking him just didnt think of it then. having a sleeve/liner put in #3 and cam bearing installed. im just excited about it and had to ask. thanks 359 pete

thanks griff im wondering how this might effect my compression and valve clearance. the motor i have has had a little work on it before i got and im just trying to get it right the first time. thanks again for yours and everybodys help 359pete
