I think he is talking about adding 2 angled bolts to support the main bearing caps, supposed to be stronger than a straight 4 bolt main set up.

Griff, make a phone call to an automotive machine shop & they will gladly give you a price, but you may not like it.

Pete is correct it is alot stronger in the right block it will leave more metal in the web area which makes it stronger. So far the price is $400 to $500 it is supposed to be able to handle 100 hp over the standard 4 bolt. The machine shop did try to talk me into a standard 4 bolt but I already commited to buying the 2 bolt block so here we go LOL.

Would it be possible to splay a four bolt and make a 6 or 8 bolt main, or is a 6 bolt only possible with a block that's cast that way? Just a thought. I've never been inside a 4 bolt, so I don't know what kind of room there is for that sort of thing.

I dont think there would be room if there was I think it would weaken it because of removal of more of the webbing metal. The ls blocks are a different animal than the old like I have they are cross bolted which allows the extra bolts.

GRIFF
Typically, A set of Milodon Main Caps are about $300 with studs included. Machine work will run about $ 250 - $ 350 depending on Your area and if The machine shop can do in-house align boring. The Milodon Caps are the strongest I've found. Pricier, but the quality is worth it.

The 6 bolt is something that You can do on a Y block like a Chrysler big block or an LS1 design Chevy. A V block like a big block or small block chevy isn't a good candidate for anything beyond a 4 bolt main cap. A Y Block is where the main caps actually set up inside the main body of the block whereas a V block has the caps on the bottom of the block.

Bill,
The caps I was looking at were eagle and they were cheaper. In your opinion is this a good way to go for a high hp alky motor it would still be cheaper than an aftermarket block. What kind of hp would it hold with the miloden caps. Thanks

What are You calling HIGH for HP ? If You're going to make above 650, I'd use a Dart Iron Eagle block at least.
