4.10 Vs 3.73
ive got a 1968 Camaro SS , m22 4 speed *close ratio* with a 427. at the moment the dif has 3.07 gears in it, its brutal to drive around the city. i was hoping by going to a big block the trq would make it easer to get going but i was wrong, its currently worse then the 350 that was in it befor.
with the tires that are currently in back it would make a 4.10 gear set the same as 3.73 gears to the ground...i was wondering what your experinces have been, gas isent a big issue nor is the highway, its made to be just a fun car for goofing around with.
lil bit of info
2.20 first gear
275/60/15 tires in back
no power or trq really till you get past 2500rpms or so

It was a 327" rated at 350 old style HP (probably 280 of todays horses), solid lifter cam & 11:1 compression. The car was dead stock, except for upgraded ignition, and was pretty easy to drive off the line & but was nothing like a real muscle car. Would do the 1/4 in the low 14s. The stock tires weren't all that big but they held Ok because of the lack of low end grunt. The thing was that, it had to be in perfect tune in order to be able to drive it in traffic, because as soon as something went out (like a slight miss, a valve out of adjustment, or the idle mixture not just right) it became a pain to drive it around.

not worried about the motor it self and how she runs
its not made for traffic by no means...almost zero vac becuse of the nice bump stick and a single plane
im looking for gears that, if im on it, can sizzle the back tires to the point of them dripping outa of the wheel wells and still eb able to drive it around stop and go with out having to burn my clutch

The big cam is what causing your problem, but with big enough gears you can make it manageable. With a cam like yours, go all the way to 4.56 gears. Really works good around town, but gets a little busy on the highway being you don't have overdrive. Lived with a car set up like that for several years & got used to it.
