350 smallblock vs ls1
I am getting a 350 smallblock for my 88 2.8 6 camaro. It is carbourated. I wanted to know how that would stand vs a ls1 camaro. I also wanted to know what are the specs for the smallblock 350? torque and hp. Which one has more potential the ls1 or smallblock

i dont know the numbers for the 350 but i can tell you that it will be the far lesser of the two evils for the install its hard to get it into V6's of its own generation much less to another

RE: 350 smallblock vs ls1
well it depends out what ur doin to the 350 ur putin in ur '88 i have a LS1 its a 350 but the thing is that the LS1's Cyclinder Heads & Block r aluminum and ur probley puting a iron block/head in yours a '98-'02 weight about the same as '82-'92 but the'98-'02 gens r closer to 50/50 weight than any other gen of camaro so far so if u wana beat a 325hp fuel injected LS1 you'll probley need atlease 350-385hp thats what i say ive beatin older fox body mustangs with more but that cause i was racing a ford product for one hahahahaha.

The LS1 is actually a 346, but everyone says 350 'cause it sounds better
I'll say this like I've said it multiple times before, how much power you have is all a matter of how much money you can put into your motor. You can easily make a 350 SBC make more power than a stock LS1, you can then easily make that LS1 faster than the 350, it all depends on what you have into it. Generally speaking the LSX has more potential than a traditional small block because of the redesigned heads allow for much larger intake port volumes for high hp while retaining a good flow velocity for torque. The LSX also allows for much higher valve lifts than a traditional SBC(the max safe valve lift on a SBC is somewhere around the .660@.0.050 range, that's just .060 more than a stock LS6, you can push the lift on a SBC higher, but it's really hard on the components so it's not practical for a street motor), so you can ultimately get more flow through an LSX. That doesn't meant that you can't make a traditional SBC as fast of a car, but typically you won't be able to see as high of HP numbers.

also, if im not mistaken, all 4th gens have the motor stuck up under the dash, so from 93-02 the weight distribution should be similar
