RE: Performance chips

What you hear and what you get are two different things. One: They will not increase your Horsepower much over stock. Two: On most they only change the timing & fuel programs. Three: In most cases they are a watse of money unless you have added mods that change your engine. Example: Heads ,cam, fuel injectors, headers and such over stock. Then you will need a custom chip.

RE: Performance chips

NO....Unless you add other mods a Chip is not a power adder..

suspension and tiresis the only thing that will get you off the line faster. a built ls1 in street trim and a stock v6 mustang are both expected to pull 2.0 60' if the driver is pretty good. if off the line is what u want look into suspension

Hold the phone!!! A chip is NOT a waste of money... What year is your car?? A chip can and WILL increase fuel milege by about 3%, And power is about 10-15HP depending on engine with NO other mods... But Black 67 is correct, the more engine mods you have the better the chip works... We have used these chips at GM for a few years, and all my friends and I use them in our cars, My GTP has a hypertech chip in it, was the first mod I did, and it gave me 23 WHP, on a 6! My Vette also has a PCM reprogrammed... If you go with Hypertech, they will give you FREE upgrades as well, so as you mod, you just reprogramm the chip and it does its job even better... Im a fan of these upgrades, I was a GM tech for a few years, and they do work very well if done right.

SpecterGT is also correct, if you cant keep the traction down, you aint going any faster...

RE: Performance chips

i personally do not believe in chips, or handheld canned tunes (depending on what ur vehicle takes). full tuning with a wideband or dyno time are the only ways I go. i have seen far too many "performance" tunes which result in you running pig rich with too much timing.

RE: Performance chips

I understand where your comming from, I used to think that way also, but I have used to many and seen to many work very very well to beleive that anymore... A reprogram PCM on my 2001 Vette was the first mod I did, went from 345Crank HP to 360 with NO other mods... The early chips were a waste of money, but now they work very well...hell, at GM we sell GM chips now for some models, like the SS/SC cobalt, vette, SS impalla, Silverado, etc...right from GMPP
