car stumbles under hard acceleration
 

Hey all you great troubleshooters! I have a 91 rs 305 tbi, that really runs pretty good, until recently.I have run it out of gas 3 times! now before you yell at me! i know this is hard on fuel pumps, but my gauge isnt too accurate, at first i thought it might be a clogged fuel filter, which was changed, and is changed every 6 months, has a new TPS sensor, O2 and new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, timing is alittle adv at 8 degrees, she pings sometimes under alittle acc when in OD. Now what it does is hesitates and backfires (engine compartment) under moderate to heavy acceleration, has no check engine lighton, and no codes are stored. Im thinking now that the fuel pump pickup might be restricted, because of emptying or running it out of fuel! any ideas? im also looking at the knock sensor as a possible culprit has yet to be changed, Thanks all! any and all help would be much appreciated.

What no idea,s? well thats ok found a plug wire that got to close to the exhaust manifold! have,nt changed it yet but im pretty sure that the culprit. Thanks anyways.
