DIY: Camaro/Firebird Sealed-Beam to HID headlight Conversion
 

This DIY works on 93 - 97 Camaros & Firebirds and 82 - 91 Camaros & Firebirds.
1. Remove the sealed-beam headlights from the vehicle. Here is the headlight assembly:

2. Put the headlight in the oven at 150F for 10 minutes to loosen the black rubber around the bulb & light. This will not harm the headlight!
3. Take a Xacto knife and cut around the rubber in a circle around the light. The bulb is easily removed.

4. Cut out all the rubber material from the hole where the bulb goes in:

6. Get yourself a good set of XEON 8000k 9006 bulbs! These cost me $12.95 on Ebay:

7. Put the bulb in the hole and seal it with electrical tape, or heat shrink-wrap. The nice thing is it fits very snug when you put the light back in the Camaro so it won't move! Voila! Now you just have to replace the 9006 bulb when they blow, which is alot cheaper than buying the sealed-beams for $50.00 a side! Not to mention, the sealed-beam lights aren't very bright either.
8. Now they are ready to go back into the car!

Thanks for blinding me and other motorists with HID bulbs in non HID housings. We really appreciate not being able to see the road when you're coming from the opposite direction.

You're welcome! New cars all have HID XENON headlights, and worse even with projectors. This conversion won't blind other drivers!

Yes, but they are in appropriate housings. The light from HID's needs to be concentrated, which a regular halogen housing will not do. That's why they make conversion housings.

I bought the conversion housing and there's no difference. No one has flashed me on the highway yet either.

those aren't HID bulbs.

They are HID blubs "sort of," but this is not a true HID conversion. I've done this and it was ok, but I've had better outcomes with just replacing the stockers with silvania replacements.
