Default 2011 camaro oil consumption

I have this beautiful red jewel camaro and love driving it. 10000 miles since new. Had to add 3 quarts of oil before the first oil change and looks like it will need to get its 6th quart of oil tonite. How much oil do these v6 camaros normally use? I am taking it back into to the dealer again but wanted your thoughts on this.

Depends on how you have been driving it, and have you read the owners amnual and followed the break in procedure.

Pete,
I made sure I broke it in according to the owners manual. no high revs, etc. I drive about 100 miles a day. Some slow traffic but mostly between 45 - 70. I turn it loose once in awhile but not often. The dealer tells me it's within normal ranges for Chev.

I know, the factory claims 1 qt every 1000 miles is OK, but most engines do not use nearly that much. You may want to communicate with GM customer service directly, there may be a problem that they don't want to advertse, but will take care of it if the customer makes enough of a fuss. It may get better with more miles, but 10K should be enough to seat the rings. You could also try some heavier grade oil, check your manual for what is recommended; however, if the engine has cylinder deactivation, you will need to use the very thin stuff to keep the special valve lifters working properly. In any case, do not do anything that may void the warranty, and keep good records of all that was done.

Sorry it took a while to get back here. Anyway, I am using dexos oil. I haven't had the chance to get ahold of the GM area rep so that is my next step. I will post again once I have something from Gm. Thanks guys.

When I used to do the GM warranty thing they where pretty strict about 1qt/1000 and no other syptoms is not a problem. Our area rep was a real hard nose on this. When I ask him why he said a few years back they where tearing into customers cars if the customer complained enough. In the end after spent 1000's on warranty repairs the cars where still using the oil.

Funny thing is my friend bought a brand new BMW/Cooper mini and since the first 1000 miles he has used 1qt. BMW has the same policy as GM. He now has 30K on it and it still burns 1qt/1000

1qt per 1000 miles seems to be a lot of oil consumption for a new modern engine.
