Why 3.4 to 3.8 swap may be better than lt1?

Now im not saying the V6 is better than the V8, im just saying it's a better idea for me and lots of other people in my shoes. Bacause (most) people with 3.4's don't have alot of money, or elce we wouldnt drive 3.4's.

ok like all millions of people with 3.4 V6's, I don’t like it. Now of corse most people would tell me "get an LT1!!" now im just a teenager but this is my theory about why not. Some of it's fact, some is opinion, tell me if the fact part is wrong:

1: 3.8 is a happy medium, 3.4 is to slow, 5.7 is to expensive (and gas costs 5 grand a gallon)

2: I can pick up a 3.8 for a couple hundred right now, and down the line I can dump the amount of money i would have spent on a LT1 and be just about as fast if not faster

3: There’s the option of supeing up the 3.4 and it will keep up with the 3.8, but that’s about as fast at it will ever go without forced induction. I’d rather have a nice sturdy 3.8 to supe up in the future

4: it's a daily driver, and I just want to un-whimpitize my car

what do you think? make sence?

If you go to 3.8, you still need new PCM, wiring harness. 3.8's had dual cooling fans. You contradict yourself when you say people w/3.4 don't have alot of money, yet you're wanting to swap in an engine (which will cost a bit). You bring up gas, but in reality the V8s will get as good of mileage as the 6.

i see what your saying, but ether way isn't a 3.8 swap at least 2 grand cheeper than a lt1 swap?

Could be. Depends on how cheap you can find an LT1 and associated transmission. But in most cases the 3.4 to 3.8 would be cheaper than swapping in an 8.

Yah that's prity much my main point, expecaly sence I can keep my transmition. It's hard enoughf to find a good lt1 much less one with a good manual transmition. So I would need new fans, new PCM, and a new wireing harniss? And another thing, is useing a FWD 3800 motor out of the question? I think on most of them the intake would be backwards on my motor. I just like the idea sence I can probably find one with a super charger.

Motor mounts are different for both FWD and RWD I believe, so it would make things a bit more difficult. I know eBay always has cheap RWD 3.8s available. Also www.tacreationsusa.com has some engines on hand.

i know someone who has a T5 on a LT1. he ordered it from GM like that back in 97 i beleave it is. that or a 95. anyway, i dont like it, but it is pretty interesting, his theory is that the 5spd is much better on the 1/4, 1 less shift, same "theory" of having a 3 or 4 spd, or even a auto. less shifting time.

Anybody who shifts through 6 gears in the quarter, either has very, very close gear ratios, they are just cruising down the track...

That is true, but you'll be paying for premium gas too.. just something to keep in mind.
