Default Waterpump Replacement

Heya!

I have 1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe.

Can anyone point out a good how-to for replacing a waterpump? I don't know anything about cars, but I'm on a tight budget, and friends/family are flaking, so I decided to tackle this on my own.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Zed

A little clarification first. You're posting this in the V6 section, but your signature is saying you have an LT1 Z28. Which one are you asking about?

Autozone has a free online manual for jobs like this. 97 LT1? In the future you should aways post Car details so we do not have to guess if its the car in your sig or not.

@Camaro 69 - Oh, man. I read that wrong. Jeez, first post on the forum and I post it in the wrong place. Sorry. Thought it said V8.

@Gorn - Alright, will do.

Was there a question there, then?

Oh, and there's a trick for replacing the LT1 water pump seal correctly, so you don't end up with an oil leak after you're done: https://camaroforums.com/forum/lt1-lt4-tech-9/installing-water-pump-drive-seal-43601/

So my cousin (mechanic) and I replaced the waterpump and thermostat. The gaskets on the waterpump were all rotted and hence the leaking onto the serpentine belt. The thermostat was frozen closed, also. Just when we thought we had it, after 10-minutes of running the temp gauge shoots up. What was wrong? After tinkering around he found that the two fans weren't turning on. So what I now have to do is plug in a modified fuse so that the stronger fan turns on and unplug it when I get out from the car manually. Sometime this weekend we are going to install a switch so that I don't have to pop the hood everytime.
