Type of Unleaded for my V6
Hi everyone.
Just want to know what is the best Unleaded for my Camaro 4th Gen V6
In France we have 2 types of unleaded : Unleaded95 and Unleaded98.
They are octane 95 and 98.
On my previous car and previous bike, I was only using 98, I was getting better perf with the bike.
I don't know if the Camarao V6 99 can support unleaded98.
Thanks for your advice

Wow, you get some good stuff over there! I suppose you're paying for it though. Here in the States, "regular" is in the 87 octane range, and "premium" can be anywhere from 91 to 93 depending on where you buy it. 95 is more than what your engine even needs.

1 gallon of unleaded 87 octane here in vegas is $2.69 you get five sents off of every gallon if you pay cash hahahahaha... which is less then half the price for a gallon for you (about $7.14 if i did math right) for once i dont think i will complain about our gas prices lol.... however for $6.00 a gallon i can get 100 octane =P

^ Not so fast. European octane ratings are different than the ratings used in the states.
In Europe the "research octane number" (RON) is used. In North America, the "anti-knock index" (AKI) is used. AKI is just an average of RON and "motor octane number" (MON). MON is generally about 8-10 points lower than RON - So what does this mean? The equivalent octane rating in North America is about 4-5 points lower than the octane rating in Europe - which means that 95 octane fuel in France is about the same as 90-91 octane here.
Your conclusion is still correct though...the 3800 only requires 87 AKI (~92 RON) and anything above that, with a stock motor, is excessive. It would probably run OK with lower octane, up to a point because of the anti-knock sensor (with a loss of fuel economy and performance) if that's the only fuel available.
