to my knowledge there were no changes made between the two years. same motor.

A good way to check, if ur only concerned w/ the boltons, is to go look at an aftermarket parts store like summitracing or something. look up the throttle body for your car, if the year range they give encompasses both motors ur golden

I dont remember for sure but there might be differences, I dont know if the lower intakes are different but the upper intakes are quite a bit different. The 99 should be a straight intake and the 98 should be angled. That, and the throttle body is different too, as long as you keep those pieces internally the engine is the exact same.

im not much for v6 tech but... why would they change major boltons between 98 and 99 when the major body changes were 97 to 98?

That's what I wondered about the 98-00 having an LS1 intake, and 01-02 having an LS6 intake. Weird.

I think the intake change was in 98. I would not worry to much about it though cause I know the lower intake is the same. You can put either intake on but I do think they are the same. You should pull the whole intake off, upper and lower. These motors are known for intake leaks. It is a bear when the motor is in the car and 30 minutes of work while it out and you can do it with a beer in one hand.

Depending on the miles and how it looks inside you might want to pull the heads and replace the head gaskets. After looking at the 02 40K motor I got I did not pull the heads, had it been 4 years older I might have.

thats different.

w./ the v6 stuff were talking about two completely different intakes which are not interchangable.

w/ the ls1/ls6 intake, all that happened was in 01 GM redesigned the intake for more power, and decided to use it on all of its applications. its the same intake as before with redesigned runners.

the v6 things is more comparable to the lt1/lt4 intake... not direct swap right?

You can swap the old intake to the new engine, no problem. So it's clear to those who read this, '99 is when the intake manifold and throttle body changed to the straight manifold, and electronic throttle. '98 is just when they changed to the lid style intake instead of the air box.
