Same thing here. I actually went to this board to make a post about this and saw this thread. I have a '98 3800 and after sitting for a couple of hours it has a hard time starting up. I usually have to push the gas pedal about half-way to get it to start and after that there's a strong smell of gas all around the car. Yet if I try to start it a few minutes after shutting it off it starts perfectly.

Now the engine runs very well it just gets annoying and a bit embarrassing to listen to the starter struggle for 10 seconds everytime I try to start it. [&:]

 

mine is a little different it won't start and the fuel pump just stays on. then later it works fine and starts up right away

 

Alright well today I tried priming the pump several times by turning the key to On for two seconds then back three times. It made no difference. It still took a long time to start and after it started it ran very rough so I had to push the gas to keep it from dying.

I am suspecting that somehow my engine gets flooded with gasoline while it is off. Is that possible? Could it be that my injectors are slowly leaking out fuel into the enginewhen the car is off?

 

yeah mine is still doing to exact same thing. I was told it could be the crankposition sensor. I'm not throwing any codes but I hate the fact that I have to go through that everytime I have to start her up. I'm thinking about changing that sensor for the hell of it and see what happens.

 

Bad fuel pump possibly -- have you had a fuel pressure test?
