Default squeaking

i changed my valve covers and now it revs at 3000 then goes down to 1500 once in drive. so i drove it around the block, when i pushed the gas it began to squeak or squeal...it also smokes quite a bit. I have no idea...im not a mechanic and i dont have the money for one.

You change the valve covers or gaskets? If it was the covers, did you use stock ones? What color is the smoke?

it was the gaskets. the smoke is white. Im not quite sure where its from...probably the gaskets. it comes through the intake manifold but not so much out the sides by the covers. when i put the car into drive now it seems to slam into gear. it kicks harder into reverse

Does the smoke come from under the hood, or out the exhaust pipes? Light blue smoke = oil; White smoke = coolant; dark gray/black smoke = some unburned fuel

Is it safe to assume that you didn't have this problem before messing withthe valve covers?
Since the process also involves removing the upper intake manifold, I'm going to say that's where to start looking foryour problem. Did you replace the intake gasket with a new one? And scrape & clean the mating surfaces thoroughly as well? If not, then that's the problem. Sure sounds to me like you have anintake manifold leak.

Yeah, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace them.

You dont need to remove the upper intake to do valve cover gaskets.
