You need to try harder, it can be done. Flex head ratchet, and Gear Wrench pass through sockets and driver are a big help.

With stock manifolds, I find it easier to set the front up on jackstands and use a creeper to slide under it and attack them from the bottom, except for the 5.7L passenger side. They are a PITA no matter how you try.

3.8 is not to hard. I can get to all of them with just a 2" extension except for the 6th one. I need to go trough the bottom.

3.4L you can get to them all from the top easy (easy being a relative term with a 4th gen)
LS1 you can get to all but #8 from the top. Drivers side pretty easy, pass side more difficult.
3.8L (older manifold design)Remove the exhaust heat shields for best results. Then only the ones that are hidden behind the manifolds need to be had from underneath. #3 and #4
3.8L (Newer manifolds) all should be accessable from the top
LT1 (^*&^&%&$^%$&*@@$!^$&#) Just leave any hard alcohol or firearms out of reach while attempting this job!
