Default running rough

ok i know this is a camaro forum but my cousin has a 92 cav (at least its a chevy) shes telling me that it starts real rough and doesnt stall but the rpms will drop real low almost to a stall shes in ny and im in sc so i cant look at it to try to see what the thing does soon she will be venturing down to sc (about 900 miles) she tells me that after about 5 miles or so it will get a little better but not the same as a month ago im thinking fuel problem maybe the filter i was alsothinking the pump but when she told me it gets a little better i started to drift away from the pump i told her to try the stp compleat fuel; system cleaner and see if that does anything does any of this sound like anything you could think of (also she has no codes i told her to get it read anyways incase the bulb was blown she was a little upset to have to spend the money with no code) she also replaced the plugs and wires

Is the check engine lite lit? Most likely the car could use a tune up (plug, wires, filters, etc..)

Could try adding a couple of bottles of good injector cleaner, like Techron, to a full tank of gas. May also want to clean out the EGR valve, in case it is not closing fully at idle and WOT.

WOT = wide open throttle. And the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve still might go bad, but on a '92, it's not so easy to check - a check-engine light may or may not go off if the valve is bad, I don't know if the '92s had OBD I or not. A quick check of forums (Search for Cavalier OBD I and reading the flashing CEL light codes) might bring more info.

Then again, a '92 Cavalier might not be worth fixing, as they probably won't go for much even at junkyard prices - especially in rust-prone NY.
