Problems with 3.8L
 
Hello,

Ive had problems with my 1997 camaro 3.8l running rough right around 1500rpm's. This only happens at first start up, until my car reaches operating temperature. This problem usually happens leaving my driveway and going down the street. Once the car reaches operating temperature, the problem goes away. After the car is warmed up, the problem does not occur, such as leaving a stoplight. The only code I have on the car is P1406, which I believe could be unrelated. If I unplug my MAF, the car runs absolutely perfect, under operating temperature, or at operating temperature. (of course it will now throw the MAF code). I bought a new MAF, and installed it, and now it seems that the problem got WORSE. The car sometimes dies at a cold start up, which it never did with the original MAF, and even cruising down the road the problem is WAY WORSE. It now throws a random misfire code (P0300).

Im curious as to how to resolve my problem, but even more curious as to why this new MAF seems to make my car run worse than the old MAF. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

return the MAF, get back your money

clean and or replace your EGR valve and the random misfire will go away as will the 1406 which you should not have ignored.

Sorry, forgot to mention, EGR valve has already been replaced.

I had a MAF code and a Random miss fire code. I replaced the MAF and the issue was gone for a few weeks, then it came back. I put the old MAF sensor on the issue went away for 2-3 days. Then when I was working on something else I bumped the wiring harness to the MAF and the car stumbled. I replaced the MAF sensor pigtail (connector) and that was the end of that.

After I bumped the wires and the engine stumbled I tried to get it to do it again, It would not and I am sure I wiggled that connector in the past with no stumble. When I soldered in the new connector I was not sure it was fixed until a drove the car a few weeks with no new code. 0
