Porsche 944 2.5 4cyl to camaro V6 swap
I'm putting a 2002 Camaro 3.8 V6 into my 1986 Porsche 944, texas performance concepts sells the gm 3800 to porsche 944/924S swap kit, and I bought a wrecked 02' V6/5spd camaro for $800, I'll use the camaro bellhousing with adapter and stock Porsche 5spd transaxle via torque tube (the chassis set up is like a C5/C6 corvette) I want to know of any upgrades I should do before I install this engine, aside from bigger cam, porting/tuning which are in my plans and I just have a few questions...
#1. is there any difference as far as performance between the stock camaro heads/camshaft vs. the L67 supercharged engine? I cannot use the L67 supercharger on my engine because of hood clearance issues that would have been my first choice, but the heads and cam are interchangeable, I read somewhere that the supercharged engine has a .504 lift cam and better heads and the camaro 3.8 cam is a .413 lift?? can anyone verify this?? #2. I've also heard about people deleting the balance shafts and using upgraded timing chains, what are the pro's/con's of doing this??? #3. what are the best "bang for the buck" upgrades for this motor?? I'm looking to get around 250-300rwhp |
Did you continue the swap? I'm in the process of swapping my 84' 944. I was set on the LT1 or the 5.3 truck engines for price, but figuring in a built turbo trans and trans axle things didn't meet budget.
The 944hybrids forum has good info on most of this, except the 3800 swap :/ |
Me too
YEAH,
same thing here, have a 87 944 that i may want to put a LLT or LFX in it. I was wondering how this swap went for you. |
Just a FYI "crash78" has not posted on this site for 5 years.
