Default Polished intake?

I am thinking of getting a donor intake from the junk yard. Sanding it down then polishing it back up and installing it on the Camaro. Anybody ever done this? Seen it done? Got any pics? Or tips?

I have seen it done a few times. They looks nice. Your going to have to figure away to protect the finish cause it will dull in a matter of weeks. Its up to you but only about 30% of the intake is visable when everything is all together. I did a lot of detail work on my 3.8 and I was bummed on how little you can see of it once it all back together.

Thanks Gorn. I didn't think about having to protect the finish. May just sand it down and paint it then.

I used a can of high temp paint on the intake that I just put on the V8. It looks good now but time will tell.

Both powder coating and painting need tooth to stick. Its not a chemical bond its a physical bond so the surface needs to be ruff. If you are going to paint it you would just knock off all the oxidation with sand paper, clean and shoot it with 500 deg engine paint. Your intake should never be over 300 degs. If it does "how the paint holds up" will be the last thing you will be worried about as you look at pile of scrap that use to be your engine.
