My 2000 Camaro is overheating and i have checked my coolant level and checked my radiator to see if something got caught but i didnt see anything. I am going to replace my thermostat soon and Does any 1 else have any thoughts that i should check? I am also going to order an SLP thermostat that opens up at 180° does any 1 know if that will increase my horsepower ?? Any info. is greatly appriciated Thanks

It could be that your coolant is extremely old and maybe just a flush and fluid replacement would help. If you replace the thermostat and that doesn't help, the next thing to check is your water pump, which isn't always an easy/cheap fix. To answer your question, thermostats do not add horsepower, but your car does perform better at cooler temps. The thermostat you're thinking of keeps it running cooler, that's all. Good luck.

Do a coolant flush. You could have air in the system. Check for leaks and check your radiator cap and make sure its not old and can hold pressure.

you will save alot if you do it yourself... its real easy to drain your radiator, then prestone makes some radiator flush that you can pick up at autoxone or oreily's ... there are directions on the bottle follow them and you should be able to do it for around 15 dollars ... new coolant and the flush.. good luck

After you flushed the cooling systemthe engine still overheats, check ou the water pump and radaitor. A quick check for a clogged radiator is to get the engine hot and run your hand across the radiator from top to bottom, the temp should be about the same throughout the radiator, if you have cooler spots, sections of the radiator are clogged, and the radiator should be replaced.
