Thumbs down ??? Oil Presure an Leaking Issues ???

Ok,... recently i encountered a oil presure issue which caused the engine to spin a few bearings, it also damaged the crankshaft an 2 front connecting rods... this was all caused by the oil valve freezing shut an starving the engine of oil but by the time i realized the damage was already done.... Since then.....
I decided to fix this engine instead of buying a new. Heres what was replaced...........
Crankshaft, 2-connecting rods, all main and connecting rod bearings, oil siphin tube, oil pump gear and valve, timing chain and gears, front and rear main seals, water pump, all sensers on lower an front half, and all gaskets needed to complete the job...

The car ran great for a month then it sounded like somthing poped underneth an i noticed the smell of burning oil, the car also downshifted an didnt wanna go back into OD an the service engine light began to flash at me....
Had the light tested an it said that its detecting slippage in the tannny.
i continued to drive it know it was leaking an had issues :-(..
Well the oil leak got worse and now the car doesn't wanna hold oil presure when i let off of the gas.... Then i parked it lol

Since this ive stripped the engine back down an trying to find the cause of the problem...
Ive found nothing that id think would cause this engine to leak the way it is.. 2 main bearings will have to be replaced again but their not that bad but that was likly caused after the oil leak when the lack of presure started....

This is a 3.8L 3800 V6 im workin on by the way.
Is it possible that maybe somthing is causing the crankshaft to wiggle??... Torq Converter or somthing in the drivetrain maybe??...
Its pretty costly to tear this thing down an keep rebuilding.. $2800 invested so far an counting :.-( So i kinda wanna figure out the problem an repair it however i dont think it will be as easy as seals an gaskets...

Can ne1 help??????.......

with the issues you have had i would go with another motor. did you have the block and heads boiled and the oil journals cleaned? if not you could have had metal in there. there are allot of 3.8 motors out there that will work in your car. i would call around the local wrecking yards and see what they have. the front wheel drive 3.8ll will work you just have to change the top stuff off your motor.

Naa.. ive never done nething to the block or heads boiling wise.
Your prolly right though, i should just get a new engine however i'd kinda like to see what the deal is with this 1... It drives an runs great, its just leakin an havin oil presure issuses i assummin due to its leak or leaks....
The front an rear seals seem to be in good shape but thats where it was leaking from. More so from the front then the back but the back dripped straight down on the exh. so hard tellin....
It will cost another $400 or so im guessing to replace bearings, seals, an gaskets to get this engine back, the crankshaft still seems in good shape on the jernnals neways. not sure,...it could be warped or unbalanced but it was bought brand new from napa. Should i just do this u think an see what happends?.... or
... it will cost roughly $1500 for a nice new engine in my area thats got 45,000 miles an a 3 year warranty...
Im open to it though if thats what it calls for :-(

no telling what damage has been done by not getting the block and such clean of all metal fragments from the spun bearing. i would go with a different motor although 1500 sounds kinda steep, the warrenty may be worth it. are they installing for that price?

I had a similar problem with my engine shortly after I bought my car. This led me to do alot of footwork finding out what engines can be used to replace the one I had. Here is what I came up with.

https://camaroforums.com/forum/v6-te...nt-info-57568/

$1500 is kinda steep and sounds like it is a salvage engine through an autopart store. Keep in mind that the wrecking yard will sell that same engine to you, (not as much of a warranty) for about $500. Most of the time a wrecking yard makes up the purchase cost of the car once they sell the engine or trans off it, the rest of the car is profit.

As for your engine I agree with Craby. If you didnt hot tank the engine you WILL have debris from the spun bearings in the oil passages. That will lead to future failure as you are experiencing now. I would if I were you cut your losses with your current engine and get one from a wrecking yard, get a Series III if you can, they were built a little stronger. The yard will tell you the Series III will not fit but I already know and will promise you it will fit, the block, crank and cam are the same, heads have bigger intake valves and the intake was improved (FWD only since the Camaro went away at 2002, and the Series III started in 03) Again check my post above for the important info.

How's the oil pan? Is it leaking? I had an issue with the oil pressure sensor. It was cracked and leaking oil. Alot of oil came out of the engine and the low oil light came on. I changed the oil pressure sensor and guage and it all worked well.

How's your main engine seal? That can cause an issue too and if that's leaking then that can cause tranny issues too.

I went to the link you posted Massey, That was interesting.
So a 3800 series 3 FWD will bolt right up to a 3800 series 2 RWD tranny outta my camaro??...
Honestly i may just take this route, i did a lil research an found a 09 eingine outta a buick (vin 2)with 12,000 miles for $750 which is alot better then the $1500 dollor 1 (vin K)for the camaro. I guess cause they knew it was for a camaro idk lol...

My big thing is I just wanna make sure this all works out ok you know,.. with all the change over from the 98 series 2 3800 RWD(Vin K)
to the 09 series 3 3800 FWD(vin 2) an everything boltin up right, tranny, pullys, intake, oil pan, ect... an like you said the salvage yard is sayin it aint possible.

i would go for it. massey knows the v6 camaro very well. more power, less money is the way to go. gives you extra cash to replace the head gaskets and get new seals. maybe some bolt ons.
