Default Oil Pressure, please respond fast

I am driving home to Texas on Saturday and I need a question answered.

While changing my oil in preparation for this trio, my idiot friend tried to change my oil filter by reaching down through my engine. He did not succeed but did end up breaking my oil pressure sensor. So we went to the parts store to get a new one and the one that they said was meant for my car had 3 prongs in it, and we needed 2 prongs. So the guy went back there and looked around for 10 minutes and found one really similar to mine. Needless to say, we put it in. When it broke however, probably 3 quarts of oil spilled out. We filled it back up but it seems like it is overfilled, but not by a lot. Anyways now my oil pressure, when the car is cool, runs up at about 80, which is the highest my gage goes. While idling when warm, it runs at about 40-60. Even while warm, whenever I start driving over 30 mph, the gage shoots up to 80.

I guess my question is what should the pressure be for a 1994 V6 automatic warmed up and cooled?
and
Should I be concerned with this kind of pressure when I am about to drive 1000 miles there and 1000 miles back in a week?

Your oil pressure reading high would be because of having the wrong sending unit. You can't go grabbing one off the shelf and use it just because it "looks similar". Close....but no cigar!

Well common sense, if you overfilled the oil, check the dipstick, and if necessary, drain some.

Well obviously but I dont have time for it. Would it hurt anything if it ran with a little too much oil?

And like I said before, would there be something wrong with running one that looks similar? The one meant for my car did not fit into my car so obviously using the one it says to use is impossible.

What's a "little too much", half a quart? A little bit more like that won't hurt, you might even use up some of it on the trip home. And the oil being high doesn't give you a high pressure reading on the gauge (just in case you were wondering).

Read my response directly below your first post. It won't hurt, it just will be giving you an incorrect reading.

80 PSI is about right for a cold engine - about what my 2.8 V6 Fiero does when it's cold (and its same engine architecture). I've heard that grossly overfilling your oil can lead to frothing of the oil which is bad for lubrication as well as higher stress on the front and rear main seals. You need to find out how much you overfilled it, just pull the dipstick.
