Apparently your buddy did not know moch about rear ends either. lol You can't mix & match used ring & pinion gears and expect them to be quiet.

The proceedure for removing and installing the rear diff is very detailed and very unforgiving. You skip or mess up one step and its all going to come apart very quicly. There is a reason why it cost so much to have it done by a garage. If you buddy mixed two different gear set he has no clue what he was doing. Now you need gears and the rear put together right.

You could try but you most likely have odd wear pattern on the pinion gear now. The cost of the labor to do it right is going to be high. If you are just going to sell it buy a complete rear axle out of a V6. It should only take a couple of hours to switch. None posi unit see for dirt.

So you do know someone who know how to setup a rear correctly? Most shops charge about $400 to setup a rear. If it comes out noise because your pinion is messed up I would think that would hurt pretty bad.
