4th gens are designed for the spacific motor it came with, to change to a 3.8 would be just as hard and costly as switching to a 5.7. stick with the 3.4 or start looking for another 4th gen with what you want in it and put your current camaro up for sale. socom has a nice build thread for you to look at.

You'd have much better luck doing that stuff with the 3.8. Plus it starts out with more ponies and is a much smoother engine. Trade up.

I do not think he is say do the 3.8 swap he is saying buy a 3.8 in the car already. Craby is right you would need a lot of parts to do the swap. It is a insane amount of work. There is a sticky that has more information on this forum.

The reason Augapful says get a 3.8 is because the 3.4 is an all or nothing type motor. The problem is the heads and the stock bottom end. Bolt ons will not do much for the 3.4 because the heads are the limiting factor. There is a fix but that fix will cause the motor to have high compression and make a lot of power, to much power for the bottom end to handle. That why I say it all or nothing. First build the engine, then replace the heads, then you get to go fast

Unless you just really like rebuilding engines or want a 3.4 l project, trade it for a 3.8. The amount of money you would have to put into the 3.4 to make it faster, you can buy a 3.8 and some mods. Pretty much are you willing to spend 3-5 grand on a 3.4 rebuild or buy a 3.8 and that all depends on how much of the labor are you doing yourself.

thank you all on your input, so it looks like im going towards a 3.8 motor. just wondering if there is any difference between the camaro and the firebird 3.8. and also i seen a few pictures of people polishing there intake on the 3.4 motor and i was wondering how to remove my intake, i see all the bolts but the only thing im concerned about it the fuel rail. will i have to take this off to remove my intake? thank you all again

everyone was suggesting that you sell your car and trade up to a 3.8 camaro, not to do a 3.8 engine swap. Careful!!!!
