more codes !@&%*

How it all started 45min into traffic heard a pop from under passenger side then engine started stuttering (wouldn't accelerate over 30-40mph no speedometer due to possi rear end) smoke coming inside from underneath pulled over looked underneath. Catalytic converter was glowing (it was a sunny day) towed it and mechanic replaced ICM. Since then stutters at random times and engine runs rough check engine light back on.
CODES= P0300-Engine misfire detected
P0335-Crankshaft position sensor circuit malfunction
Don't remember third code something to do with exhaust
I replaced all plugs (#6 boot burned from inside out @ plug) and wires engine runs smooth but still stutters at random times for a few minutes before engine picks back up. Now check engine light back on so canned again now showing EGR and catalytic converter.
Any ideas before spending money on a cat & EGR in a strapped for cash time. (98 3.8 w/150k+ no speedometer hope it's done for)

THanks!!!!!

sounds like a plugged cat.

I put my vote in for plugged cat as well. Why no speedo? Your diff may change the reading but not the ability to have a speedo. The sensor is located on the Tranny not the diff. The speed sensor on the diff is for the ABS system not the gauge.

Your catalytic converter is definitely plugged. You need to replace that before you warp the heads off the motor. The misfire code may go away after you do that. If you can, (after cat swap) make sure your head gaskets are still alright.

According to the mechanic the possi kit didn't come with a spider gear that controlls the speedometer and he had to disabled the ABS for what ever unknown reason. If you have any idea how to fix it or where it is on the tranny I'll take a look at it when I have chance and reply with back to help others with same problems.

better not take it back to that guy. there's supposed to be a reluctor on the ring gear in the rearend for the abs. the speedo runs off the trany and i see no reason to unhook it. check to see if its pluged in. should be the rear most plugin on the trany on the driver side.
