On the way out to Indy for the F1 race, filled up will Sunoco reg (87 octane) and hit the turnpike. Cruise control set for 70 and 1st tank gave me 27.9 mpg. Didn't believe it, checked the pump and odometer did the numbers again ... 27.9. Next tank, 26.7 with the wife deciding on a 2 hr rush hour detour through Pittsburg. And this was with the AC on!

The return trip I'm going to splurge and try a tank of Sunoco mid-grade. used to get about 2 mpg better with the mid-grade. Makes me wonder ... a 30 mpg Camaro 3.8L auto?

Find the biggest bus or transfer truck and draft! Major drag reductions occur while following within 10 feet of a truck, but that would put you in the blind spot.

i get 260-ish on a 15gallon tank with my 96 3.8, and that's really low.. and ive changed plugs, wires, coils, air filter, fuel filter(3x). im going to try O2 sensor and CAT next... dk what else to try after that, just absolutely horrible gas milage, but m sure my very low gear ratios arent helping.

94 3.4 ,, 150k 5 speed , 23mpg avg. 29 highway, mine was worse, i put autolite double platinums, new wires, k&n cai, cleaned throttle body, new o2 sensors, new fuel filter, and some other stuff i can't remember. ya all that stuff gave me at least a 5 mpg upgrade\. to the stats above.

99 3.8 with 99,750 miles on it. With mixed driving I get between 20-23 mpg, highway I get around 25-28. A couple years ago I was getting 30mpg+ easily on the highway.

Your low gear ratio is most definitely causing some significant loss of MPG...

Acully you dont have to be anywhere near that close. Even up too 100 feet behind a semi truck you start getting major drag reduction. 10 feet is very dangerus and you should'nt drive behind a semi for long periods of time were he cant see you. About 20 feet back you still getting massive improved MPG. The problem ive always had with this is I usally get frustrated the truck is going to slow and pass.

I average about 22 mpg with about 50/50 city & highway driving. On the highway i usally cruise about 80 give or take and not drafting. In the city it is with me driving, If i tried, I could probly get much better milage. I can get 300 miles per tank easily but I usally fill up at about 275 or so.
